WWE Clash In Italy Results, Winners And Highlights On ESPN

Cody Rhodes Def. Gunther

  • Fans sang along to Gunther’s theme song (melodically), but fans were also 100% behind Cody Rhodes for his entrance as well, singing every word of his theme music. This environment was every bit as hype as SmackDown in Spain and AAA in Arena Monterrey.
  • Fans were chanting for Cody during the ring introduction. Gunther received mostly applause during his ring introduction, and Cody Rhodes was unanimously cheered. This did not feel like an away game for Cody Rhodes, and the announcers acknowledged that.
  • After chants of “Cody Rhodes,” the Gunther hive took over with chants of “let’s go Gunther!” The two fanbases went back-and-forth with their chants early on. Gunther opened up with a series of heavy handed chops on Cody. Gunther pulled ahead with a chop on Cody in midair as Rhodes tried a Cody Cutter.
  • Rhodes came back with a powerslam on Gunther as Turin rose to its feet. Rhodes peppered Gunther with punches, a bionic elbow and a Pedigree for a nearfall. Gunther scored with a powerbomb, but Cody got the shoulder up at the last second. Rhodes caught Gunther from behind with Cross Rhodes for another nearfall.
  • Rhodes went for an avalanche Cody Cutter, and Gunther caught him in a sleeper. Rhodes desperately tried to fight out of it, but Gunther put his full body weight on Cody Rhodes. Rhodes temporarily escaped, but Gunther immediately got his hooks back in as Inalpi Arena chanted “Cody!”
  • Cody Rhodes got his foot on the rope, much to the chagrin of Gunther and some of the fans in Italy. Gunther and Cody Rhodes went back-and-forth with chops and sleeper attempts. Cody scored with a clothesline and hit Cross Rhodes for the clean win. Gunther appeared to have gotten his foot on the rope as Gunther was extremely (kayfabe) upset with the referee. Instant replay showed that Gunther did, indeed, get his foot under the bottom rope at the beginning of the count.

Match Grade: B+

Rhea Ripley Def. Jade Cargill

  • Heel Jade Cargill was booed in juxtaposition to a giant pop for Rhea Ripley. The world title match opened with chants of “let’s go Rhea” and the Seven Nation Army chant. Fans booed as Jade Cargill took control early, taunting Rhea with pushups.
  • Ripley slapped Jade, mid-pushup, then dumped Cargill to the outside. Jade caught Rhea and bounced her off the apron. Jade then bounced Rhea off the ropes and caught Ripley with an impressive knee. With fans jeering Jade in Italian, Cargill hit a perfectly executed fallaway slam on the outside.
  • Inalpi Arena chanted “let’s go Mami” as Jade continued to talk trash. Jade whipped Rhea into the corner and went back to doing pushups. Cargill dictated a slow, deliberate pace. Rhea rallied, only to be cut off time and again. Ripley finally found some momentum with a spirited comeback, punctuated by a German suplex. Rhea connected with a senton to the outside on Jade.
  • Rhea Ripley hit a missile dropkick on Jade Cargill for the nearfall. Cargill countered a Dominator with a back body drop, only to meet a front kick from Ripley. Turin chanted “this is awesome" as the champion and challenger stirred in the middle of the ring.
  • Jade Cargill and Rhea Ripley went strike-for-strike. Jade tried Jaded, but Ripley countered, ultimately scoring with a headbutt. Cargill fought out of Riptide, but Rhea came back with a flying knee. Ripley hit a Razor’s Edge followed by a Shining Wizard for a nearfall.
  • Ripley and Jade toppled over the top rope in an electric chair position. Ripley dropped Cargill on her face and covered her inside the ring. Cargill kicked out and seemed legitimately woozy. Cargill and Ripley countered each other’s finishers and Cargill planted Rhea with a beautiful DDT. This match was a Giant F-U to Jade Cargill’s critics, particularly when it comes to her wrestling.
  • Rhea Ripley stuck Cargill with a super back suplex for another nearfall. The Baddies hit the ring, and Jade Cargill blasted Ripley with a pump kick off the distraction. Ripley hit Riptide, and B-Fab put Jade’s foot on the rope. The referee caught her red-handed, and threw B-Fab out of the match.
  • Rhea Ripley went after B-Fab and Michin, but Charlotte Flair hit a cross body splash on the Baddies. Jade planted Rhea with Jaded, but this time, Charlotte put Rhea’s foot on the rope. Ripley hit Jade with a headbutt, Riptide and the win. Excellent match.
